About Us

William F Barton

Billy Barton has been doing accounting work for individuals and small businesses for over 40 years. He opened the first Jackson Hewitt Tax Service franchise in Research Triangle, NC in 1990 and served over 300 tax preparation clients. The practice was sold in 2000. In 2003, Billy started his own full service accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses with tax preparation service, bookkeeping, and payroll services. The practice was sold in 2015 after deciding to semi retire.

Billy has been married to Connie Barton for 47 years. They have 2 sons and 3 grandchildren.

Billy likes to play golf and surf fishing when he is not helping clients with their accounting needs.

Dear Friend,

It’s one thing to manage a business; it’s quite another to grow it.

If you’re reading this, you know what I’m talking about.

It seems like the books are being handled properly. It seems like payroll is (mostly?) under control. It seems like the IRS is okay with how we’re handling our taxes. It seems like the financial reporting is in place.

We’re flush … most of the time. But we’re certainly not growing. We’re not prospering.

What are we missing?

This is a common story that we hear when we first start talking to business owners. The boxes are checked; the people are in place … but the fact is, they’re not quite sure how to optimize the financials for performance and growth.

Our specialty is in reading between the lines of the systems, the softwares, and the financial statements to see the true financial story being told … even when the reports all “seem” okay (for now).

The fact is that the Federal Government would love to have more of your business’s hard-earned money in their accounts. Your employees probably don’t care about cost control as much as they should. Your sales team might need to focus their efforts in a new direction.

But you don’t have to hand more dollars over to the government than they require just because you don’t know their rules as well as they do. You don’t have to live in a constant state of anxiety over the state of your books. The future of your business doesn’t have to be a question mark.

Let’s get a real-time reading on your business’s financial health with our bookkeeping services. Answer a few questions below to get started.

Click the button above to take your first step, and we’ll be in touch soon to follow up about your specific needs.

And of course, feel free to poke around our site and discover why I’ve been called “The Most Trusted Tax Professional in the Research Triangle, NC Area.”

Talk again soon,

William F Barton

PS — When you fill out the form, we’ll also add you to our weekly email series on “Real World” Strategy for small business owners. Our readers enthusiastically forward these to their colleagues and peers all the time because they’re not your standard “bookkeeping tips.”

PPS — Already want to come in? I don’t blame you … many people are fed up with trying to manage their books and financials on their own. Our schedule is very full … but if you call us at 919-243-0671 or Email Us, we’ll give you two options for coming in right away. We will NOT make dealing with a business advisor as painful as dealing with your books has already been!

Customer Stories

Hi Billy

We just wanted you to know how pleased Evan and I were with the preparation of our 2008 tax return and especially the amended return you did for 2007. We are glad you recommended that we bring in our 2007 tax return for you to review free of charge. After seeing the errors that were made on the 2007 tax return and the resulting additional refund of $1672.00 by having the return amended, we now realize the importance of having a professional tax preparer do our tax return. We will be sure to recommend you to all of our friends, neighbors, and coworkers. We look forward to seeing you again next year to prepare our 2009 tax return.

My personal sales have grown from $500,000 in 2006 when we turned the bookkeeping work I used to do over to your company, to over $900,000 in 2007 and over $1 million in 2008. Hiring your firm has turned out to be one of the best business decisions our company has made in over 12 years in business. Thanks for all you do for our company to make us more successful.”

Like many small business managers over the last 20 years, I was lead to believe that the national payroll service providers, with their broad reporting capabilities, would be of great value to my business. My actual experience over a ten year period went from tolerable to clearly unethical. Now, after allowing my friend and fellow Rotarian, Billy Barton, to process my payroll for the last twelve months, I’m more than happy to recommend Barton Tax and Accounting Service.

First, and foremost, having someone local that you can really trust as a partner for your business is really important. And having that partner right around the corner when you need to call or stop by his office is a real value that the big companies just can’t touch. On several occasions we have overlooked a payroll issue that Billy was able to correct and have us drop by and pick up the same day.

Last, and least, BTAAS came in at a noticeably lower cost than both ADP and Paychex due to his utilization of a reasonable and respected QuickBooks payroll software program that has the capacity to provide most any reporting a small business would normally require.

Respectfully,
